The World of Joe Tex

Singer, dancer, writer, preacher, rapper, comic and all around original...

Rare songs

Prolific writer Joe gave some of his songs to others. Here are three from his early 60's songbook that Joe never got round to recording himself.

THINGS I'D LIKE TO DO

Joe wrote both sides of Louisville singer Cosmo's 1963 single (Jam 105). Joe obviously knew his TV shows!

GET OUT OF MY HOUSE

Ernie K-Doe will forever be remembered for his monster No.1 hit Mother-in-law. Joe and Naomi Neville helped him write this follow up, clearly his in-law troubles were not over!

PENNY'S WORTH OF HAPPINESS

Ernie K-Doe  also recorded Joe's quirky story of a dialogue with a weighing machine! This version is by Chet Atkins' discovery Jimmy Elledge whose dreams of being a teen idol stopped at one hit in 1961.
